Health and Safety for Board Members eLearningBy completing this eLearning module, Board members will better understand their OHSA obligations and the penalties for non-compliance. Board members will also be introduced to the idea of health and safety as one of many critical organizational risks that must be managed and mitigated through formal oversight and demonstrable due diligence. This module encourages Board members to improve the quality of their own organizations’ health and safety, calling upon the learner to identify specific, Board-level actions required for positive change. A 10-question quiz at the end of the module allows Board members to self-assess their understanding of workplace health and safety stewardship. By the end of this eLearning module, you will be able to:
- Identify health and safety as business risks that need to be managed along with all others
- Describe the roles and responsibilities of board members and other workplace parties under the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Describe the Internal Responsibility System
- Summarize due diligence requirements under the Occupational Health and Safety Act

Health and Safety for Managers and Supervisors Blended Training Program
Length: 1 days in class + 3.5 hour e-Learning module
This blended training program combines self-paced eLearning (approximately 3.5 hours) of online instruction, activities and knowledge checks with 1 day (7.5 hours) of face-to-face instruction, group discussions and exercises. You must successfully complete the eLearning module before attending the classroom session.
This blended training program applies to the managers and supervisors in Ontario’s education; emergency services; government and; healthcare sectors. It is designed to provide a deeper understanding of occupational health and safety and how it contributes to supervisory responsibilities, impact workers and enhances the health and safety culture in the workplace. It covers what it means to be "competent" and develops the knowledge and skills to effectively perform the role as a supervisor as stated in OHS legislation and in best practices.
The classroom session builds on the eLearning and explores the concept of moving beyond compliance – from a supervisor to a health and safety leader and role model. It provides information and resources to aid in the development of critical thinking skills and better understanding of the supervisor’s role as it relates to the OHSA.
The combined eLearning and classroom sessions provide Managers and Supervisors the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to fulfill their role as a critical link in moving beyond compliance to demonstrating leadership in safety, creating a positive safety culture and reduced injury experience in their organizations. It also provides the organization the opportunity to adapt a “best in class” mindset and improve their occupational health and safety system and achieve reduced injury experience. Strong leadership can lead to improved employee morale and more efficient operations.

Note: PSHSA’s Health & Safety for Managers and Supervisors will help prepare supervisors to perform their health and safety duties competently. However, the employer is responsible to inform supervisors about the health and safety hazards that are specific to their workplace. Additional training in workplace-specific hazards and the regulations that apply to those hazards may be required.

The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) 2015 is Canada's new national hazard communication standard. The eLearning module provides information on the new WHMIS 2015 standard as well as WHMIS 1988. This design aids learners in identifying the new requirements and changes from their previous WHMIS training while achieving compliance for both. Length – Approx 1.5 hrs
This eLearning module provides an overview of existing statutory requirements for workplace violence and harassment under OHSA and the extended obligations arising from legislative changes. This eLearning module contains the information and resources that you need to ensure that you understand current legislation, organizational policies, procedures and protocols around workplace harassment and sexual harassment. Length – Approx 1 hr.
This eLearning module informs workers of their legislated health and safety rights, roles and responsibilities in relation to workplace safety. The intent is to assist Ontario workplaces with compliance to Regulation 297/13 Occupational Health and Safety Awareness Training. Participants will also learn about the Internal Responsibility System, supervisor duties and common workplace hazards, including Regulation 860 (WHMIS). Length – Approx 1 hr.
Upon registration for this bundle, users will gain access to all three courses on PSHSA’s learning management system.

Health and Safety Representative (HSR) Basic TrainingThis training program covers the fundamentals of workplace health and safety including HSR responsibilities and duties, legal requirements under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), hazard recognition and control, workplace inspection and investigation techniques and prevention resources. This training can help participants to fulfil their responsibilities as a HSR and to be an effective role model in the workplace protecting co-workers through the promotion of health and safety. Health and Safety Representative (HSR) eLearning training is comprised of 5 sections.
It will cover the essentials of HSR role, including how to:
•Identify and control hazards
•Resolve health and safety complaints and issues
•Participate in investigations of work refusals
•Develop, implement and monitor programs
•Inspect workplace on a regular basis, and to
•Investigate incidents and accidents such as critical injuries and fatalities
Length: This course will take approximately 6-8 hours to complete
