Candidates who understand unionized workplaces, worker voice, collective agreement environments, labour relations, and the practical realities of advancing safer, healthier working conditions for unionized workers.

Candidates with expertise in financial oversight, audit, accounting, financial sustainability, internal controls, funding arrangements, risk-informed decision-making, or public-sector/non-profit financial stewardship.

Candidates with experience in artificial intelligence, data governance, information management, cybersecurity, digital transformation, technology-enabled service delivery, systems thinking, or organizational infrastructure.

Candidates with experience in adult learning, training strategy, curriculum development, competency-based education, learning technology, evaluation of learning outcomes, or workforce capability development.

We are especially interested in candidates with experience in PSHSA’s priority sectors, including:

• Municipal
• Public Safety
• Education

Experience in health and community care, Indigenous communities, government, the broader public sector, private sector, or non-profit organizations is also valued.

While these areas are current priorities, PSHSA welcomes applications from all candidates with relevant leadership experience, sound judgment and a commitment to advancing workplace health, safety and wellbeing.

As a remote organization with hybrid Board meetings and remote committee meetings, PSHSA welcomes candidates from across Ontario.

Public Services Health and Safety Association is a designated entity of the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) and is responsible for delivering health and safety programs, services and solutions to Ontario’s public and broader public services.

As one of Ontario’s sector-based health and safety associations operating under the Health & Safety Ontario banner, PSHSA is a trusted advisor to public sector organizations seeking to reduce and eliminate work-related injuries, occupational illnesses and fatalities.

The PSHSA Board of Directors provides strategic oversight, fiduciary stewardship and governance leadership. Directors help ensure that PSHSA remains a strong, trusted and sustainable part of Ontario’s prevention infrastructure.

The Board’s role is strategic, not operational. Collectively, Directors help guide PSHSA’s long-term direction, oversee financial sustainability and risk, support effective governance, monitor organizational performance, and ensure the organization continues to advance its mandate in service of Ontario’s public and broader public sector workplaces.

The Board is composed of 12 Directors and is supported by two standing committees:

• Governance & Human Resources Committee
• Audit, Finance & Risk Committee

Directors are expected to prepare for and actively participate in Board and committee meetings, contribute constructively to strategic discussion, and bring sound judgment, curiosity and a commitment to good governance.

PSHSA is a remote organization, and Board participation is designed to support meaningful engagement from Directors across Ontario.

PSHSA Board Directors are appointed for a three-year term, with the possibility of renewal for an additional term, to a maximum of six consecutive years.

The Board meets four times per year, including an annual retreat and Annual General Meeting. Additional meetings may be scheduled if required. Board meetings are held in a hybrid format, with in-person attendance at PSHSA’s Head Office in North York preferred where possible. Attendance at the Annual General Meeting, held in person in Toronto each September, is required.

Each Director also serves on one Board committee: the Governance & Human Resources Committee or the Audit, Finance & Risk Committee. Committee meetings are held remotely and generally take place three times per year.

Board Directors are reimbursed for reasonable travel and business expenses related to attendance at Board and committee meetings, in accordance with PSHSA policies.
