How we conduct a policy and procedure review

1. Initial call with an expert

We’ll connect you with one of our health and safety consultants, who will provide an overview of the process, discuss your specific health and safety needs, and recommend next steps.

2. Onsite visit

You and your consultant will arrange for an on-site visit, where your consultant will discuss current challenges and specific programs in your workplace and identify the need for revisions of existing policies or the creation of new policies. This is usually completed over the course of one day.

3. Create new policies and procedures

Based on our review, your consultant will work with you to update existing policies and procedures in need and will create new ones to improve health and safety and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

4. Continued support

At the end of a review, you’ll have the policies and procedures you need in place to help keep your workers healthy and safe. Continue to work with our consultants on your health and safety journey through risk assessments, prevention strategies, communicating your new or updated policies, and much more.

Why organizations should review their policies and procedures

Health and safety knowledge, best practices, and legislation change, as does the organization’s knowledge of those policies and procedures, particularly as employees come and go. Regular policy and procedure reviews by an expert will:

  • Ensure policies and procedures are effective and up to date—regular reviews provide insight into an organization’s current system and confidence that best practices are in place
  • Improve overall workplace health and safety—a review will highlight areas of opportunity and provide a clear path to identify, assess, and control workplace hazards to reduce or eliminate risk of injuries or illnesses
  • Reduce potential liability—employers have requirements to keep policies and procedures up to date and to ensure employees understand and review them, and not doing so could increase an organization’s liability
  • Establish health and safety as a priority—regular reviews demonstrate a commitment to health and safety, create opportunities for new initiatives, and send a message to workers that their health, safety, and wellbeing is a priority
